Duckie Emory Flemister

Educated and employed as a nurse, duckie had long dreamed of a life as a screenwriter and in 1994 began taking courses at the local Media Arts Center in Video Production, Editing, Lighting, etc, then in 1996 New York Film Academy came to town with a summer-long film workshop that built upon what she had already learned as well as screenwriting and cinematography. This program culminated with her first short Wisdom of Solomon and the filmmaking bug had taken hold of her. In ’98 she wrote, produced and directed her first independent short Martyr, which found a screening at the New York Independent Film Festival. Finding it difficult to get another screening and having no opportunities to even meet other Ct filmmakers the dream was put aside for awhile but after a brief marriage it was time to make another go of it; in order to meet and network she conceived of a public access show Cinema Street and put an ad in Craigslist to draw Ct filmmakers out of the shadows. Soon she was part of this community and one thing was very clear-New Haven needed a new film festival. DREAMLAND was born and the inaugural fest was held in October, 2011. With all the production and promotion duties to bring Dreamland to realization she has found the time to produce and direct a documentary VIGILANTES-The Politics of Murder; a conversation about the death penalty with perspectives from survivors of homicide, law enforcement, attorneys, activists and exonerees from death row. It is currently in post-production.
